Circleville, Pickaway Co, Ohio, Sept 2, 1825; d in Los Angeles, Calif, Jan 24,
1905: m at Findlay, Ohio, Apr 8, 1847, Rev. Samuel Mower, officiating, EDWARD
PAGE SPARKS, oldest son of Joel and Lydia (Whitaker) Sparks, (See Appendix) b in
Pittsgrove Twp, Salem Co, NJ Aug. 11, 1822; d June 16, 1902.  Mr. Sparks was one
of the outstanding citizens and pioneer farmers in the great commonwealth of
Iowa, one whose private and public life exemplified the best ideals and whose
stainless character made him a leader among his fellows. He and his wife first
lived at Elwood, where their ch. were b. then later at State Center, where they
are bur. They were devout Methodists.

        Miss Mary Funkhouser, the second daughter of Uncle Daniel Funkhouser,
was born near Circleville, Pickaway county, Ohio, Sept. 2d, 1825, and was there
brought up and educated, spending her girlhood days in her native county.  She
was married April 8th, 1847, to Mr. Edward P. Sparks, a native of New Jersey.
Born in 1822, and died June 16, 1902. They finally located at Tindall, South
Dakota. They have seven children -- three daughters and four sons.
