The source of this Walnut Twp. Docket Book is the original ledger with cases recorded from December 1855 through March 1871. It is the only Docket Book I have knowledge of and I have included all the information contained therein. I have carefully checked spelling of names in all cases and have transcribed them as they appear in the original. If there is doubt regarding the spelling, I have included a note showing the other possibility. Hoping this provides some clues to Pickaway Co. Researchers...Rachel Meyer

The plaintiff claims judgment for the sum of Twelve & 91/100 Dollars ($12.91) with interest from the 13th of June 1855: Being the balance due on a promissory Note, made by the defendant to the plaintiff, which is as follows:

Bill of particulars of Plaintiff Before W. C. FINKEL, Justice of the Peace
The plaintiff clams judgment for the sum of $175.00 with interest from the 16th day of April A.D. 1856 on a promissory note made by the Defendant to the plaintiff which is in substance as follows:

One day after date I promise to pay Samuel Pontious Sr. or Bearer the sum of one hundred and seventy five Dollars for value received this 16th day of April A.D. 1856

appearance herein and confefsed that he is indebted to the said Samuel Pontious in the sum of $175.25 cts and requests that Judgment entered on said confession and for costs. Thereupon it is on said day considered by me that the said Samuel Pontious recover of said Lewis Heckman the sum of $175.25 cents.
April 29th 1856 The defendant came and by J. T. JONES
and John STRAUZ his sureties residents of the County approved by me as good and sufficient surety caused an undertaking for the stay of execution to be entered herein as follows:
In pursuance of the Statute in such case
made and provided by J. T. Jones and John STRAUS as surety for the stay of execution on the above judgment of Samuel Pontious against Lewis Heckman do hereby promise and undertake to pay the amount of Said Judgment interest and costs and the costs that may accrue.

June 25th 1856 John B. Vandemark the garnishee appeared and was examined under oath and examination reduced to writing signed & filed.
And I do find from said examination that at the time of the service of the order of attachment and notice on said John B. Vandemark he was not possessed of any property of the Defendant Lewis Griffith or had any under his control.
June 25th 1856 This suit continued untill August 11th 1856 at 1 O Clock P.M.
Aug 11th 1856 - 1 O Clock P.M. Parties failed to appear it is thereupon and on said day considered by me that the said Samuel G. Pontious recover of the said Lewis Griffith the sum of Twenty Dollars and forty five cents interest his costs herein taxed as eight dollars and 30 cents.

September 10th 1856 Order for sale returned Endorsed Received this writ August 11th A.D. 1856 By virtue of this writ I advertised and sold the property therein described to the persons and for the prices following. Retained my fees to $4.27. Money made and paid to Justice.

VANDEMARK 's claim was reduced to thirty five 8/100 Dollars and it is thereupon considered and adjudged by me that the said John B. VANDEMARK recover of said Lewis GRIFFITH the sum of thirty five Dollars & eight cents and his costs herein taxed as twelve 30/100 Dollars.
Aug 11th 1856 Order issued and delivered to Caleb Hall Const.
September 10th 1856 Order of sale returned Endorsed. Received this writ August 11th 1856 By virtue of this writ I advertised and sold the property therein described to the persons and for the following prices. Retained my fees $6.15. Money made and paid to Justice.
