290,000 men participated in the American Revolutionary War. There were 4,435 deaths in service. Last Veteran: Daniel F. Bakeman, died 4/5/1869, age 109.

287,000 men participated in the War of 1812. There were 6,765 deaths in service. Last Veteran: Hiram Cronk, died 5/13/05, age 105.

Indian Wars & French and Indian War (also known as the "Seven Years War")

106,000 men participated in the Indian Wars. There were 1,000 deaths in service. Last Veteran: Fredrak Fraske, died 6/18/73, age 101.

115,493 men participated in the Mexican War. There were 1,177 deaths in service. 24 of the 28 States provided volunteer troops which included Ohio.  Last Veteran: Owen Thomas Edgar (1831-1929) at the age of 98 after suffering a fall from a chair that fractured his leg.

Union participants were 2,213,000 in the Civil War. There were 364,000 Union deaths in service. Last Union Veteran: Albert Woolson, died 8/2/56, age 109. Confederate participants were 1,000,000*. There were 133,821* Confederate deaths in service. Last Confederate Veteran: Disputed.*
