GOLDIE RADCLIFF

Mrs. Goldie May Radcliff died Sunday at her home in Jackson Township [Pickaway County OH] of tuberculosis in her twenty-second year. She was born in Austin, Ross County, May 28, 1899, and was the daughter of William and Minnie Peck Roseboom. May 23, 191_, she was united in marriage to Charles Henry Radcliff in this city just five days before he left for the World War. Besides her husband and parents, she leaves a 17-month-old daughter; two sisters, Mrs. Albert Mader, Chillicothe, and Miss Helen Roseboom, and three brothers, Floyd, Estell and Forest, of this city. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the United Brethren Church conducted by Rev. A. B. Cox.

MARY RAMEY

Mary Jane Ramey, 83, Barnes Ave, died in her home Thursday, December 25 [1958]. Born March 9, 1875 in Ross County, she was the daughter of David and Elizabeth McClain Fuller. She is survived by her husband, Ezra Ramey; five sons, William, Eugene, Carl, and David, all at Circleville, and Chester, Columbus; two daughters, Mrs. Goldie Leach, Circleville, Mrs. Marvene Burgoon, Arizona; a brother, Thad Fuller, Springfield; four sisters, Mrs. Hattie Turner, Columbus, Mrs. Ann Stevens, Springfield, Mrs. Iva Stafford, and Mrs. Blanche Ross, Cincinnati. Two daughters, Della and Helen, preceded her in death. Services will be held at the Church of Christ in Christian Union, Rev. Richard Humble, officiating, with burial at Hitler-Ludwig Cemetery by Defenbaugh Funeral Home.

PHYLLIS RAWLINS

Phyllis Marie (Wood) Rawlins, 82, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2000, at Mt. Carmel Medical Center, Columbus. She was a homemaker, wonderful mom, tremendous grandma and loving wife. Phyllis went to be with Wilson Rawlins, her husband of 62 years. She will be sorely missed by her daughter, Diane Norman; son-in-law, Mike Norman; grandchildren, Joe and James Norman; and the families of Wendell Rawlins, Warden Lee Rawlins, and Graceil Williams. She had been worthy matron of the New Holland Order of the Eastern Star, past treasurer of the African Violet Society, president of the Kappa Phi Mothers' Club, Ohio State Mothers' Club and currently a member of the Concord Chapter 520 of the Eastern Star in Frankfort, Ohio. Phyllis was a creative gentle spirit who loved deeply, was steadfastly loyal and gave tirelessly to her family. She has attained peaceful rest in the open arms of the Lord and will forever abide with Him. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, January 24, at Schoedinger Hilltop Chapel, 3030 W. Broad St., Columbus, where friends may call 2-4 and 6- p.m. Sunday. Pastor Dale George will officiate. Interment will be 12:30 p.m. Monday in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort.

JOSEPH RENICK

Joseph O. B. Renick, who was born in this county in 1810, died in Franklin county on Monday afternoon. He was the son of William Renick, who moved from Virginia to the neighborhood of South Bloomfield in 1803. The deceased was engaged in business in Circleville many years ago and moved to Franklin county in 1855. His funeral occured on Wednesday and was largely attended, Hon. Allen G. Thurman paying a tribute to the deceased in a brief address.

ABDEL-SAYED REZKALLA

Abdel-Sayed N. (Al) Rezkalla, 64, of 241 S. East St., New Holland, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 1997, at 1:40 p.m. at his residence following a lengthy illness. Mr. Rezkalla was born May 28, 1933, in Cairo, Egypt, to Naquib and Galina Rezkalla. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt, and his Master in Business Administration in Finance from Long Island University in New York, N.Y. Mr. Rezkalla lived and worked in many parts of the United States and Canada as well as abroad. In recent years, he worked for the Ohio Department of Development and the City of Columbus in Neighborhood Development. He was retired at the time of his death. Among his many interests were his love of art and music. He was a member of the Coptic Orthodox Church. He was preceeded in death by his parents and two sisters, Alice and Kawsar Naquib. Mr. Rezkalla is survived by his wife, the former Linda Wisecup, whom he married June 6, 1970; two sons, J. Spencer Rezkalla of Novi MI, and Justin P. Rezkalla of Columbus; sisters, Sophie and Bahga of Cairo, Egypt; brother, Nabil of Athens, Greece; and their children. Other survivors include his mother-in-law, Norma E. Wisecup of New Holland; brothers-in-law and their wives, Darrell and Glenna Wisecup of Williamsport and Gary and Sandy Wisecup of Circleville; and their children. The funeral will be Wednesday, Sept. 24, 1997, at 10:30 a.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in New Holland with the Rev. David Yinger, pastor of the New Holland United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the New Holland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home in New Holland Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to HEPCAT (Hepatitis C. BELLE RIFE

Mrs. Belle F. Rife, wife of Edward K. Rife, and daughter-in-law of Mrs. E. B. Rife, of this city, died at Long Beach California, Sept. 1st, of cancer. Mrs. Rife was a half sister of Prof. M. H. Lewis, and her girlhood and early married life was spent in this city. She was a graduate of Everts High School. She was married to Mr. Rife August 6, 1876. In 1882, the family moved from this city to Portsmouth, Ohio. Mr. Rife having secured a position on the Portsmouth Times, then published by Hon. James W. Newman. After about a year's residence there they moved to Columbus, where Mr. Rife was first employed on the editorial staff of the Times, later going to the Ohio State Journal as a telegraph editor and editorial writer. For several years Mr. Rife has been employed on the editorial staff of the Los Angeles Times. Mrs. Rife is survived by her husband, three daughters and one son.

CATHARINE ROBBINS

Death of a Centenarian - Mrs. Catharine Robbins, mother of Mrs. Dr. W. R. Lilly, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Groom, at Columbus, last Friday night after a brief illness. Mrs. Robbins was 100 years of age last February. The deceased was a resident of this city for many years, having but recently gone to Columbus to live with her daughter. She leaves three children: Mrs. W. R. Lilly, of this city; Mrs. Groom of Columbus, and Mrs. Stover of Brooklyn NY. The funeral was held Sunday morning at Columbus and the remains were brought to this city for interment Sunday morning at 9 o'clock and taken immediately to the cemetery.

RUTH ROBISON

Ruth Naomi Robison, 43, of Circleville, died June 17, 2002, at Berger Hospital. She was born March 30, 1959, in Circleville, the daughter of Mary (Lee)Gibson and Donald Gibson. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Gibson, and brothers James Rigsby and Herman Diltz. She is survived by her mother, Mary Gibson; husband, Larry Robison; daughter and son-in-law Brandy and Andrew Payne of Columbus, and son Robert Bailey and Ashley Young of Circleville; one grandson, Dylan Godwin; sisters Loretta Gibson and Kathy Keaton of Circleville; sister-in-law Patricia Rigsby, brother and sister-in-law Eddie and Elisha Diltz of Circleville; many nieces and nephews, and many friends that will always remember her warm smile and kind heart. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday June 20, 2002, at the Circleville First Church of Christ in Christian Union. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville.

JOHN RODGERS

City Marshall John W. Rodgers died at his home on Franklin street last Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock from the result of softening of the brain occasioned by a tumor. He was 31 years old. Mr. Rodgers has been quite poorly for the past 2 or 3 years, having suffered continually with his head ever since he was struck on the head with a large cane some four or five years ago. He has been confined to his bed almost continually since his election. A post mortem was held and the cause of death, which has been in doubt, thus revealed. He leaves a wife, and three children, two girls and one boy, to mourn his loss. The funeral occurred Monday morning at 9 o'clock from St. Joseph's church and was largely attended, the Circleville guards turning out in a body.

FRANK ROGERS

Frank T. Rogers, 77, died at 4 p.m. Tuesday, following several weeks illness in Pickaway County. Born in Five Points, Aug 3, 1871, he was a son of Laban and Amanda Toy Rogers. In addition to his widow, he is survived by three children, John and George Rogers of Circleville, and Mrs. Leona Kendall of Jackson Township, three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Private funeral services were at 2 p.m.. Friday in the Mader Chapel. The Rev. Clarence Swearingen of Williamsport officiated. Burial was made in Forest Cemetery.

WILLIAM ROSEBOOM

William Fletcher Roseboom, 78, died at 7 P.M. Monday in Berger hospital following a long illness. Mr. Roseboom was born April 9, 1864 in Ross County, son of Abron F. and Elizabeth Lucas Roseboom. He came to Pickaway County in 1914 and was employed by Container Corporation of America for many years. He married 62 years ago to Minnie Peck Roseboom, who survives. Other survivors are two daughters, Mrs. J. B. Wilder of Springfiled and Mrs. Albert Mader of Chillicothe, three sons, Forrest Roseboom of West Carlton and Estel Roseboom and Floyd Roseboom, both of Columbus; two brothers, Ellis Roseboom of Frankfort and Beecher Roseboom of Asheville, N. C.; and two sisters, Mrs. Flora Howe and Miss Rose Roseboom, both of Washington C. H. Funeral services were held at 10 A.M. Wednesday in Albaugh Chapel with the Rev. Alonzo Hill officiating. Burial was in Forest Cemetery.

Hattie E., wife of W. J. Runkle, died at her home in Madison township Sunday, Oct 23 [1892], aged 33 years. Funeral Tuesday at the church at St. Paul, and interment in Forest Cemetery.

CATHERINE RUSS

Catherine Ernst Russ died last Saturday evening [29 Aug 1896] about 5:15 at her home corner of Court and Mill streets[, Circleville] aged 77 years and 22 days. Her death was sudden. She has been suffering for the past five years with a chronic case of neuralgia of the heart. She was as well as usual Saturday, being up about the house and no intimation of her dissolution was perceptible until fifteen minutes before it came. Mrs. Russ was born in 1818 in Bischoffingin, dukedom of Baden, Germany. She was united in marriage in 1837 to John C. Russ who died about three years ago. In 1839 they emigrated to this country locating for about two years in New York City. Then they came to Chillicothe where they remained 11 years. They moved to Circleville in 1853 where they have since resided, living in the house, where Mrs. Russ died, for 38 years. The deceased was the mother of four children, two of whom, Dr. J. C. and Catherine S. Russ of this city, are still living. Two children died while young. Mrs. Russ was a lifelong Christian. she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith before she left Germany and has always led an exemplary Christian life. The funeral occurred Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. from the house and was conducted by Rev. S. W. Mautz. Sermon in both English and German.

JOHN RUSS

John C. Russ died at his home on South Court St. [Circleville], Thursday evening of last week age 83 years. The deceased was born in Germany and in 1837 was married to Miss Catherine Ernest who with 2 children, Miss Kate Russ and Dr. J.C. Russ, survive him. Mr. Russ removed to this city from Chillicothe in 1855 and for a number of years worked at his trade, that of tailor. The funeral occurred from his late home on South Court Street, Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock. John C. Russ, Senior, a resident of Circleville for nearly forty years, died at his home, on South Court St, twenty minutes before 12 o'clock, Thursday night of last week, in his 84th year. He had been confined to his house for several years because of weakness of his limbs. On 21st ult[imate (last)], he was obliged to take to his bed, suffering with senile pneumonia, and it soon became evident that life's limit had been reached. Mr. Russ was born in Bishoffingen, Baden, Germany, on the 11th day of of January 1809. He learned the tailor's trade, but for twenty years or more he had been engaged in other pursuits. In 1837, he was united in marriage with Catharine Ernst. In 1839, they immigrated to America, and in 1853 came to Circleville, residing here ever since. Four children were born to them, a son, and daughter, Dr. J. C. Russ and Kate Russ, surviving with the aged mother to mourn. The deceased was baptized in infancy, and subsequently confirmed in the Lutheran Church. For several years he could not attend public services, but was still ready to help along the work of the church.

JOHN RUSS

Dr. J. C. Russ Dead, Had been an invalid for eight years--funeral Thursday from Lutheran Church - Dr. J. C. Russ died at his home on south Court St. Monday evening at six thirty after an illness of eight years. He was a man of remarkable vitality. In 1887 he suffered an attack of muscular rheumatism which developed into spinal trouble. The uremic poison set in and for the past three weeks his digestive organs were paralyzed and he has not been able to partake of food or drink. He had become a mere shadow of his former self. All thru his illness his wife had been his devoted nurse, leaving his bedside only for a few moments, at a time, an ordeal that few women have to experience. Dr. Russ was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the funeral was held from the church this morning at 10 o'clock. -- SKETCH OF HIS LIFE. -- John Charles Russ was born in Chillicothe, December 22 1852. He was the son of John C. and Katherine Ernst Russ and with his parents came to this city in 1853. He had resided in the house where he died for the past 40 years. Dr. Russ attended the public school and also the Eclectic Medical college at Cincinnati, receiving his diploma in 1882. He began the practice of medicine in Ashville and remained there two years, when he returned to this city, opened an office here and practiced medicine up to the time of his illness. April 9, 1896, he married Miss Christina daughter of Jacob and Mrs. Magdalina Mader. No children were born to this union. Besides his wife the doctor is survived by a nephew and niece, Chas. Schoeller and Mrs. Victoria Moss. He was the last of his family and name. His sister, Mrs. Kate Schoeller died March 4, 1904.

JOHN SAULTZ

John Miles Saultz, 72, died at 3:30 am today [15 Jul 1933] in Lancaster Hospital, following an illness of two weeks' duration. Surviving are the widow, eight daughters, Mrs. Susan Good and Mrs. Martha L. Arledge, Chillicothe, Mrs. Clara E. Borges, Mokens, Illinois, Miss Cecil M. Saultz, Columbus, Mrs. Marie Pentecost, Dayton, Mrs. Mary Alice Bryan, Mrs. Effie Tiller and Mrs. Grace O'Leary, all of Lancaster; three sons, Earl Fry, Norfolk, Virginia, Gilbert E. Saultz and Chancey Saultz, Chillicothe; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Miller, Circleville, Mrs. Rosetta Miller, Chillicothe, and Mrs. Nancy Fout, Gillespieville; and one brother Marion Saultz, Oklahoma. The body was removed to the Johnson-Orr Funeral Home and will be returned Sunday morning to the residence, 212 Sycamore Street. Funeral arrangement will be announced later. [NB: Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Chillicothe.]

NOAH SAUNDERS

Noah Saunders, 85, died Friday in Penton Nursing Home of Chillicothe. He had been a patient for two weeks. He had lived on Rt. 6, Chillicothe, and formerly lived in Atlanta Community. He was a retired farmer, and his wife, Sarah Thornton Saunders, preceded him in death in 1943. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Norma Hill and Mrs. Mildred Hill, both of Chillicothe; Mrs. Elsie Stonerock, Dayton and Mrs. Dorothy Godfrey of Norfolk, VA; one son, Ted Saunders of West Jefferson; nine grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. Funeral will be Sunday at Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in New Holland with Rev. Charles Lusher officiating. Burial in New Holland Cemetery.

DOROTHEA SCHWAMBERGER

Dorothea Coe Schwamberger, 81, of Wheelersburg, died Monday September 27, 1999, at Southern Ohio Medical Center. She was born December 12, 1917, in Scioto County, to the late Frank Coe and Lillian White Coe. She was a 1936 graduate of Portsmouth High School and attended Mercy School of Nursing. She was a retired registered nurse and a member of Saint Peter's Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank J. Schwamberger, on June 20, 1998. They were married in Wheelersburg on April 12, 1940. Surviving are three sons, Francis J. Schwamberger of Circleville, and William C. Schwamberger and Robert Schwamberger, both of Wheelersburg; one daughter, Sue Nunley of Portsmouth; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie Coe and Frank Coe; three sisters, Adrian Humphreys, Eleanor Nance and Zellda Lee; and one grandson. Services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Peter's Catholic Church with the Rev Peter Gideon officiating. Burial will be in Saint Peter's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Rosary will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and wake services at 8 p.m.

FRANK SCHWAMBERGER

Frank J Schwamberger, 82, of Wheelersburg, died Saturday June 20, 1998, at Southern Ohio Medical Center. Born on November 2, 1915, in Scioto County, a son of the late Ben Schwamberger and Mary Bihl Schwamberger, he was a graduate of Wheelersburg High School and a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. He worked at Wheelersburg Coal and Feed for many years and then for Boll Farm Supply and retired from Nancy Rae's Super Market. Surviving are his wife, Dorothea Coe Schwamberger, whom he married April 12, 1940, in Wheelersburg; three sons, Francis J Schwamberger Jr. of Circleville, William C and Robert L Schwamberger, both of Wheelersburg; one daughter, Sue Nunley of Portsmouth; one brother, Albert Schwamberger of Wheelersburg; four sisters, Mildred Cook and Agnes Kline, both of Wheelersburg, Beatrice Schwab of Ironton and Marie Delabar of New Boston; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Christine Delabar and Margaret Sherman; one brother, Ben Schwamberger Jr.; and one grandson. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Wheelersburg with the Rev. Peter Gideon officiating and interment in St. Peter's Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg where a rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. and wake service at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

ANNA SEYMOUR

Anna Maria Brown Seymour was born in Ross county, near Chillicothe, July 21, 1876 and departed this life, January 29th 1926, aged 49 years six months and eight days. At an early age she was baptized and became a faithful member of Ebenzer Evangelical church at Hayesville under the pastorate of Rev. A. C. Stull. She was united in marriage to Lewis Seymour September 23, 1896. To this union 7 children were born. She leaves to mourn her untimely death her husband, her children, Mrs. Edith Schumucker of Detroit,Michigan; Roy A., Mrs. Kathryn Dennis, Mrs. Helen Taylor of Columbus and Anna, Eleanor and Lewis at the home. She also leaves two grandchildren, three brothers, four sisters, and other relatives and many friends.

JOHN SHANNON

John C. Shannon, 85, of Duvall, died Saturday in a Stoutsville rest home. Mr. Shannon was born May 3, 1870, in Harrison Township, a son of Henry and Mary Miller Shannon. He was a retired farmer. Surviving him are: a daughter, Mrs. Nellie Young of Kokomo, Ind.; a sister, Mrs. Henry Ward of Watt St, and a brother, Walter of Carmichael, Cal. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the St. Paul church of Washington township, with the Rev. Henry Tegtmeirer officiating. Burial will be in Reber Hill Mausoleum, Ashville, by direction of the Bastian Funeral Home of Ashville.

CAROLYN SHIREY

Carolyn Louise Shirey, 62, of Circleville, died 27 Mar 2001 after a lengthy stay at Grant Hospital. She was born 02 Oct 1938 in Circleville, the daughter of Wilbur L. and Helen P. (Cupp) Garrett. She was retired from GE after 35 years. She was preceded in death by her father; son, Douglas E. Shirey; and grandson, Dale David Shirey. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Robert L. Shirey; sons, David L (Debbie) Shirey, of Circleville, Doyne R (Shirley) Shirey of Spencer IN; mother, Helen P. Garrett, of Circleville, brother David L (Vivian) Garrett, of Circleville; grandchildren Heather Shirey, Ben Shirey, Samantha and Skylar. Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Saturday at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 PM Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family req uest that memorial contributions be made to the Church of the Brethren, or the Leukemia Society.

JUANITA SKAGGS

Juanita B. Skaggs, 57, Waverly, formerly of Chillicothe, died unexpectedly Saturday at the Pike Community Hospital. She was born 07 May 1942 in Ross County, a daughter of Ezra A. and Addie N. Hatfield Nunley. In 1962, she married Kenneth Skaggs, who survices. Also surviving are three sisters, Louise Tatman, Mae (Warren) Martin, all of Chillicothe, and Jayne (Clyde) Kohn, Circleville; nieces, Tonita Knox, Anita Kohn and Renita Nunley; nephews, Dave and Steve Tatman and Kenny Nunley; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ezra A. Nunley Jr. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. today in the fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home with Reverend John Daniels and Reverend Arvil Murray officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation was held 6 pm,.m until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

CLARA SMITH

Mrs. Clara J. Smith, aged 80, widow of Charles Smith, until 28 years ago, a resident of this county, passed away at her home in Columbus, Friday, from heart trouble after a two week illness. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Addie B. Palm, and a son, Arthur Smith of Columbus; a sister, Mrs. E. A. Snyder of Ashville, and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the residence 65 W. Northwood Avenue with burial in the mausoleum at Reber Hill Cemetery.

EMANUEL SMITH

Emanuel Smith, of this city, died at the Athens State Hospital, Thursday afternoon 5th inst. aged 31 years. Deceased was a son of G. and Malinda (Stripe) Smith, and was born at Groveport, O. Deceased was never married, and is survived by his parents. The remains were brought to this city over the N. & W. Friday evening and taken to the home of his parents, in Hayward Avenue. The funeral occured from the Union Church, Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock; burial in Forest Cemetery.

FRANCES SMITH

FALL FROM 20 FOOT CLIFF CAUSE DEATH - Injuries she sustained Thursday at 10 p.m. when she fell 20 feet from a cliff at the country camp of Earl Barnhart, well known Chillicothe young man, at Buzzard's Roost, near Alum Cliffs, six miles west of Chillicothe, proved fatal to Miss Frances Louise Smith, aged 29, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph E. Smith of Sunnyside. Death came to the well known young lady at 4:50 p.m. Sunday at Berger Hospital where she was brought Saturday morning from Chillicothe Hospital. Her condition was regarded as extremely serious from the time of the accident and she had at no time completely regained consciousness. Everything that was possible was done for her, and Dr. Lloyd Jonnes called to Chillicothe immediately after the accident, was constantly at Miss Smith's side. Until Dr. Baldwin was called from Columbus Saturday afternoon, it was thought she had a chance to recover, but after examination by this surgeon, her condition was announced extremely critical. The immediate cause of Miss Smith's death is not known. She suffered a concussion of the brain, a fractured lower jaw, lacerations of the right elbow, fractured ribs, and internal injuries. Miss Smith had been at a prenuptial party for Mr. and Mrs. Geves G. Kenny, (Martha Mary Jacob) at the cottage of Mr. Barnhart Thursday evening with 17 other friends. She left the party in the evening and was found by Mrs. Ann Fisher, of Columbus, another guest. Her condition was at that time regarded as serious and she was hurried to Chillicohte hospital in Mr. Barnhart's car. She was to have been a bride's maid at the Kenny-Jacob wedding here Saturday night. Miss Smith was one of Circleville's best known and best liked young women. She was born at Sunnyside in the house in which she resided until the time of her death. She was born Sept 15 1901, the daughter of Joseph S. and Mollie Corcoran Smith, who survive her with the following brothers and sisters: Mary, of New York, Elizabeth, Rose, Edward and Paul at home, and Mrs. Margaret Smith Rarey, of Columbus. Funeral services were held on Wednesday at 9 a.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic church, with Rev. Fr. J. S. Hannan of the church and Father Alphonse Fisher, of Cincinnati, a friend of the family, officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery by the Albaugh Co.

ALBERT SOWERS

ALBERT SOWERS DIES SUDDENLY AT AGE OF 35 - Albert Cecil Sowers, 35, died suddenly Sunday at his home, 213 W. High Street, angina pectoris proving fatal. Mr. Sowers was ill when he returned to his home early Sunday from his work as night watchman at the Groce packing plant, W. High St. He died about 10 o'clock. Coroner C. E. Bowers announced the death cause. Mr. Sowers was born Feb. 9, 1904, Chillicothe, a son of Casius F. and Emma Betz; stepfather, John Betz, of Circleville, and five brothers, Kenneth, Frank, Marvin, and Donald; all of Circleville and Maynard of Harrisburg, Pa [survive]. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. George L. Troutman, officiating. Burial was in Forest cemetery in charge of M. S. Rinehart.

EARL SOWERS

Earl C. "Jack" Sowers, 68, Chillicothe, died Jan 5, 1992, at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Chillicothe. Born April 15, 1923, in Pickaway County, he was the son of George D. and Reba Fetzer Sowers. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Betty J. Kinsel Walker Sowers; daughter Linda (Jesse) Bobo of Chillicothe; son, Thomas Sowers of Waverly; three stepsons, Gene Burnett of Waverly; Larry Burnet of the U. S. Navy; Rhode island, and Thomas Walker of Arizona; 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one brother, Dick Sowers of Columbus. He was a World War II Army Veteran and a member of UPIU 731, American Legion 62, VFW 106, AmVets 4, and the Moose Lodge 1626. He was also a retired shipping department employee for Mead Corporation. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Ware Funeral Home, Chillicothe. The Rev. A. Anthony Frecker will officate. Burial will be at the St. Margaret Cemetery. There will be graveside military services. Friends may call 6 to 8 pm today at the funeral home.

RAWN SPANGLER

Rawn Spangler, formerly of Circleville, died Tuesday morning at the home of his parents in Jackson Ohio. He has been ill a number of years of diabetes. he was born at Wellston, April 22, 1894, and was a son of Noah G. and Minnie Moore Spangler. Of his immediate family, his parents and one brother, Stewart Spangler, a student at Ohio State University, Columbus and his grandfather, George Moore of this city (Circleville), are living.

WILLARD SPEAKMAN

Willard L. Speakman, 69, Tarlton, died July 16, 1992 at St. Anthony's Hospital Columbus. Born November 19 1922, at Circleville, he was the son of John Mark and Sarah Morrison Speakman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Belle Weaver Speakman; his parents; and a sister, June Speakman. He is survived by a daughter, Beverly Gillum of Chillicothe; two sons, Paul (Jean) Speakman of Circleville and Mark Speakman of Kingston; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was a retired lifelong farmer. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Defenbaugh-Wise Funeral Home. The Rev. Eugene Bensch will officiate. Burial will be at Green Summit Cemetery, Adelphi. Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Tarlton Emergency Squad.

MARTHA SPENCER

Martha Ann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Thomas, was born in Ross County October 19th, 1835, and died of dropsy February 19, 1892, aged 56 years 4 months. She was united in marriage to Elihu Spencer, December 27, 1855. This union was blessed with three children, one having preceded her to the spirit land. She has been a consisted member of the U.B. church for five years. The obsequities occurred Sunday at the U.B. church of Robtown, Rev. A. J. Wagner of Ashville, officiated, after which her remains were laid to rest in the Presbyterian cemetery south of this place. She leaves a bereaved husband, two daughter, one brother and three sisters and many friends to mourn the loss of a loving wife and kind parent. Mr. Spencer wishes to thank his neighbors and friends for their kindness shown while in sickness and bereavement.

Mrs. SPRINGER

Mrs. Springer died suddenly at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Miller, on East Mill Street, this city, Tuesday evening, Sept 13, aged 86 years. The funeral was held at the home of George Miller, Thursday, Sep. 15, at 2 o'clock pm.

Mrs. WILLIAM STEBLETON

Mrs. William Stebleton of Amanda died at her home last Saturday night [24 Oct 1892], after a short illness. She leaves a husband but no children, their only child, a daughter, having died last November. Deceased was a sister of L. B. Nutter of this city. The funeral occurred on Monday.

PAUL STEIN

Paul William Stein, 56, died in his home in Washington D. C. Surviving him are his wife, Mary Jane Howard Stein, formerly of Circleville, a son, James Lee; a daughter, Mrs. Leroy Longeway; his father, William A. Stein of Stoutsville; a brother, Clarence Stein of Ashley, and two sisters, Mrs. Ross Drumm of Stoutsville and Mrs. May Figgins of Lancaster. Funeral services were held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the Defenbaugh Funeral Home. The Rev. Charles Reed officiated at the rites. The Henry Page Folsom Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars conducted military services. Burial was in the Maple Hill Cemetery of Stoutstville.

JOSEPH STEPHENSON

Former Superintendent, Joseph Stephenson Dead. -- Joseph Stephenson, formerly assistant superintendent of the Prudential Life Insurance company at this place, died Tuesday, March 30th [1909] at his home in Newark, of pneumonia. He had been ill just one week. He leaves a wife and four children, the youngest a baby. Burial took place Friday in Gallipolis.

BENJAMIN STORY

Friends were grieved to learn of the death of Benjamin Frost Story, brother in law of Mrs. Willard Story, Washington C.H., daughter of of Mrs. and Mrs. C.K. Howard, this city (Circleville) which occurred in Cleveland, Friday [03 Jan 1930] after an illness of three days with double pneumonia. Story was a native of Chillicothe. He was connected with the Butler Brothers Mining Co., in Cleveland. The remains were taken to Chillicothe Monday for burial. Time of the services is not yet determined on account of the uncertainty of the time of the arrival of his mother who is in California. He is survived by his wife, one son Benjamin, Jr., a sister, residing in Cleveland, and one stepdaughter; his brother, Willard in Washington C.H., and his mother.

FERN TAPP

Mrs. Fern Hester Tapp, 39, of Walton, Ky., died Thursday, May 15, in Covington, Ky. A stenographer for the R.L. Polk Co., Cincinnati, she is survived by her husband Kenneth; her mother, Mrs. Nora Hester of Greenfield; four brothers, Lawrence, Dwight and Gary, all of Greenfield, and Warren of Leesburg; eight sisters, Mrs. Viola Cokonougher and Mrs. Martha Barnhart, both of Bainbridge, and Mrs. Dorothy Watson, Mrs. Violet Koch and Mrs. Janet Pauley, all of Greenfield, Mrs. Mary Kingery of Circleville, Mrs. Libby Hayden of Cincinnati, and Mrs. Ruth Barrows of Chillicothe. Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Allison and Rose Funeral Home, 5445 Taylor Mill Pk., Taylor Mill, Ky. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Erlanger, Ky. [NB: Fern was the daughter of Harold and Nora Hester and lived on Turkey Ridge Rd. in Ross County, Ohio, while growing up.]

MAUDE TARBILL

Mrs. Maude Marie Tarbill, 79, of near Atlanta, died Thursday, March 11, in Berger Hospital. Mrs. Tarbill was born December 14, 1885, near New Holland, the daughter of Charles and Keziah Wakefield Wright. Mrs. Tarbill was a member of the Atlanta Methodist Church and WSCS. Surviving are her husband, Ernest; two daughters, Mrs. Geneva Eisnaughle, Atlanta: Mrs. Carroll Lockard, Chillicothe; two sons, Vernon, New Holland; Wendell, Pherson; 10 grandchildren; three brothers, Homer Wright, Circleville; Marvin Wright; Maryland; Walter Wright, Williamsport; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Ebenhack, Williamsport, and Mrs. Vita O'Brien, Columbus. Services were held at 2 pm Saturday at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home, New Holland, with the Rev. Orlo Freshley officiating. Burial was made in New Holland Cemetery.

IDA THACKER

Mrs. Ida Belle Thacker, 84, Columbus, passed away at her residence on Thursday, Jan 31. In addition to her sons, Jesse, Paul, Calvin, John and Norman, she is survived by two brothers, Dan Helsel of Zanesville and John Heisel of New Holland. Services were held on Monday, Feb 4, at the Schoedinger Linden Chapel in Columbus with Rev. Seaburn Daniel officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery in Chillicothe.

LIZZIE THOMAS

Miss Lizzie Thomas died May 2d, at the home of her father, Green Thomas, on S. Canal Street, aged 29 years. A few weeks before her death she made preparation for admission in the home of her saviour. During her last days she often spoke of her interest in the merrits of a loving Redeemer. Many kindred mourn.

ADA THRUSH

Funeral services for Mrs. Ada Thrush, 72, of 1723 W. Main St. Lancaster, were held Monday, March 15 in the Ray Wise Funeral Home with Rev. Lawrence Hard officiating. Burial was made in Forest Rose Cemetery. Mrs. Thrush is survived by two sons, J. Lloyd and Donald R. Thrush, Lancaster; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Elva Welker, Mansters; and Mrs. Emma Douglas, Pomeroy; and one half-brother, John Winegar, Columbus.

BENJAMIN TIMMONS

Died Tuesday evening at his home in Bolivar Township (Benton County IN), after a long and painful illness, principally of a rheumatic nature, Benjamin A. Timmons, aged 72 years. He was buried under the auspices of the Masonic fraternity, at Gilboa church Thursday afternoon. The Rev. J.J. Thompson preached the funeral discourse. A very large number of relatives and a large number of the order attended. Benjamin Timmons was born in Pickaway County, Ohio, April 10, 1816. In 1829 he moved with his family to Tippecanoe County. Two years later they moved to Benton County and built the first log house, 16x32, which is still standing. This was the first permanent settlement made in the county, and for two or three years was the only one. Frequently Mr. Timmons has passed near what is now Oxford before a house was built. In 1844 he was married to Sarah J. Anderson. Five children were born to them. In 1842 he was elected coroner, afterwards served two terms as sheriff and was also chosen county commissioner. For many years he took an active part in public affairs. he was a worthy man and an honored citizen. - Oxford Tribune.

ROBERT TIMMONS

Mr. Robert Timmons, one among the oldest inhabitants of this neighborhood, died very suddenly Wednesday, February 24th. He had been visiting relatives during the day and returning home in the evening was taken suddenly ill and died in a few minutes. Mr. Timmons was 70 years of age. His remains were placed in the vault at Commercial Point Cemetery.

Harry Tobin, little six months old son of Mr. and Mrs. Wolford Tobin of Yellowbud, passed away Friday morning last. Interment in Springbank Cemetery.

CHARLES TRONE

Charles R. Trone, of Ashville, died Friday evening in White Cross Hospital, Columbus. Mr. Trone was born Jan 15, 1915 in Walnut Township, a son of Charles and Dora Kissell Trone. He was a member of the Ashville Knights of Pythias Lodge, the Lcokbourne Masonic Lodge, the Ashville Community club, the Lutheran Brotherhood and the Ashville Methodist church. At the time of his death, he was serving as Vice President of the Ashville school board, and also was a member of the Ashville-Harrison school board. Surviving him are: his father; his wife, Verna Armstrong Trone; a son, Charles M. and daughter, Marilyn Joy, both at home; two half-sisters, Mrs. Bertha Mae Brinkle of Columbus and Mrs. Mary E. May of Ashville, and half-brother, Irvin Trone of Circleville. Funeral Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the Ashville Methodist church with the Rev. Emmerson Abts officiating. Burial was in Reber Hill Cemetery by direction of the Bastian Funeral Home of Ashville.

HAROLD TRUE

Harold True, 82, Chillicothe, died Jan 8, 1992, at Ross County Medical Center. Born Dec. 16, 1909, at Chillicothe, he was the son of Sherman and Rose Shewalter True. He is survived by a daughter, Rosemary Danner of Circleville; two sons, Harold W. (Wanda) True and Dorsey (Jacqueline) True, all of Chillicothe; three brothers, Merly of Waverly, John of Chillicothe, and Leslie True of Grove City; half sister, Joyce Secora of Columbus; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was retired from the U.S. Shoe Corporation. Funeral services will be 11a.m. Saturday at the Hill funeral Home, Kingston. The Rev. Bob Hatfield will officiate. Burial will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
