Ahnentafel Report for Henry William Faust

                                 Generation 1

1.            Henry William Faust is the son of William Henry Faust and Mary Margaret Riley. He was born on  01 Sep 1882 in Crawfordsville, Montgomery, Indiana, USA. He died on 22 Dec 1932 in  Westerville, Franklin, Ohio.

Notes for Henry William Faust:  General Notes:

Henry Faust Obituary:  Columbus Citizen, Columbus, Ohio, Friday, Dec 23, 1932 Pg 3 Col 3  "Henry Faust is dead.  Citizen Employee since 1907 succumbs after brief illness.  Henry W Faust,  50, a machine operator at the Columbus Citizen since 1907 died at his home in High Street, five  miles north of Worthington, Thursday, from heart disease after several days' illness.  Mr. Faust  was a member of the typographical Union.  He leaves for sons: Joseph, Robert, Harry and Carl  Faust and four daughters: Roberta, Mary, Helen and Betty.  His wife died three years ago.  The  body is at the late residence.  Funeral services will be held in Immaculate Conception Church at 9  a.m. Saturday, with burial in St Joseph Cemetery by the Egan- Ryan Co."

He was born Crawfordsville, Montgomery co., Indiana Department of Health, No 13150 as Male  Foust on 9-1-1882 to William Foust and Maggie Riley

Robert Faust and Roberta Faust were twins to Henry W Faust and wife, Mayme.

Notes from Roberta Faust:  "My father was employed by the Columbus Citizen newspaper for  many years until his death.  His wife, Mayme, was a full time housewife and a very kind and  gentle person.  She also played the piano.  My father and mother both died young.  My mother  from cancer (after getting hit in the throat by a baseball at a school picnic and my father of a heart  attack.)  My father's mother had my father playing the violin and my feeling was she wanted him to  be a musician.  At the  time he was also working for a newspaper as a linotype operator full time  and she had him practicing long hours after work. ( He started work as a copy boy when 12 or 13  which resulted in a nervous breakdown when he was around 19.  After that he played only for his  own pleasure.  He paid for violin lessons for my older brother, piano lessons for me and cello  lessons for my twin brother.  He did not make us practice so we did not take advantage of it and  none of us played well.

Only known relative on my fathers side of the family was his step-sister, Elizabeth who was a Red  Cross nurse, working in Washington DC who was married later in life to Robert Holmes and they  were both retired and had cabins on a lake in Minnesota which they rented and they are both  deceased and had no children.

1848- -William is in Indiana, Crawfordsville.  About the same time T D Bowen and LD Ingersoll  started another paper, The Locomotive (1848) hoping to outclass The Journal and eventually  replace it.  They soon found that a town of roughly 1000 people, many of them newcomers, could  not support three weekly papers.  After 4 years, The Journal, won the race and the Locomotive  quit puffing down the newspaper track.

1854 - -the Republicn party arose and the Journal was in at its birth.  Messrs, Try and Kenney  continued as editor and published until Feb 14, 1956, when it passed into the hands of Joseph A  Gilkey and Daniel M Cantrill.  During the two years following must have been its storm per;iod.  As   the files show that A. Huntsvinger and William H. Foust alternated with Gilkey and Cantrill in its  publication, and "salutatories" and "valedictories" were of frequent occurrence.

"At one time well known printer here.  Was ninety years of age and worked at his trade until a few  months ago.  William H Foust, a well known printer, at one time a resident of this city, is dead at  his home in Columbia (Columbus) Ohio, being at the time of his demise ninety years of age.  Mr.  Fouset was a long time resident of this city and was for many years foreman of the Review.  He  was also at one time many years ago connected with the journal job printing department.  As a  tradesman he was an artist and considered one of the best of his day.  After being employed in  various offices of the city, he started with Leroy Miller what is now the Indiana Printing Co., which  was conducted for several years under the firm name of Miller & Fourst.  Later he sold out and  moved to Columbus, Ohio,  where he continued to work at his trade until eight months ago, and  notwithstanding his advanced age, almost ninety years, was considered on the of the valuable  men of the office in which he was  employed.  Mr. Foust many years ago conducted a hotel in this  city, operating the Foust house on  the corner where the Masonic Temple now stands, which later  became known as the Park house and which was one of the landmarks of Crawfordsville.

saving money to send for his family.  In the meantime, the mother of Margaret and her brother   (name unknown) died of an epidemic in Ireland.  Later, her father in America, met and married a  widow who had one child, and he sent for his daughter who was living with relatives in Ireland.  From this marriage, they had one child, my father.  My grandfather, William Faust, worked for a  newspaper in Indiana and later for a paper in Mansfield, where he met my mother at a concert.

Grandmother Margaret (Rielly) Faust thought she was about 8 when she came to America, all  alone on a boat and she remembered the captain was kind to her and gave her a bowl of hot soup  as she was so cold.  Her stepmother was good to her but was anti-Catholic so she would sneak to  church with her girl friend who was Catholic and who later let Margaret wear her first Communion  dress and she was always a devout Catholic having taken instructions and made her communion  without parents consent of knowing.  She said the nuns were so kind.  (Phot of Margaret about  age 60-70?)
