Obituary / Additional Information: OBITUARY George W. AMBROSE of Darbyville, passed away to the shadowy land beyond the tomb, Tuesday Evening, Feb. 1, at 6:30 o'clock p.m. his death was not unexpected, for he had been lingering for a long time. consumption fed upon his system until vitality was gone and poor George laid down his burden without a murmur. He was born in Fairfax County VA., Dec. 4, 1822 and died Feb. 1, 1881, making him 58 years, 1 month, and 27 days. He was twice married and was the father of 11 children of whom eight remain to mourn his loss. He was a carpenter by trade and did considerable work in his earlier days. He served for three years with some distinction in Co. A, 45TH O.V.I. He was a good soldier and always ready for duty. He contacted a disease while in the service that always troubled him and was partly the cause of his death. In politics, George was a staunch Republican and was ever ready to do anything honorable to promote the interests of the party. He was a man well read and able to talk upon any subject of importance. In history he had but few equals, and but few men dared ever to dispute his word. He had a memory he trust and relying upon this he made a bold and adventurous debater. He was a man who did his own thinking, religious, political and otherwise, and though not a member of any church, was a believer in the bible and in the Savior of the world. Peace to his ashes, Rev. KEMPER preached the funeral at the church. Burial in Darbyville Cemetery.

"Grandma BRIDGER" as she was called, was baptized in infancy and was confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran church in Madison township Pickaway Co., Ohio, April 25, 1847, during the pastorate of Joseph A. ROOF. She was united in marriage to Peter BRIDGER, at Circleville, Ohio October 14,1858 by Rev. Joel SWARTZ. MULLEN, of Iowa, one daughter and two sons, twelve grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. We shall meet, but we shall miss her, There shall be one vacant chair; We shall linger to caress her, When we breath our evening prayer. When a month ago we gathered, Joy was in her mild blue eyes; But a golden cord is severed, And our Grandma's in the skies At our fireside, sad and lonely, Oft will the bosom swell At remembrance of the conflict, How our darling grandma died How she strove to bear her suffering, Thro' the darkest of the night, And in Sunday's morning light. Church of Ashville, Ohio, February 1st, 1883. In this church he kept his membership till 1888. In 1883 he went to Piatt county, ILL, where he made his home the remainder of his life. For the past six months he was unable to work on account of ill health, and had to depend chiefly on the care of others. Consequently he decided to go home to visit his relatives and friends, especially his aged mother, hoping to receive better attention and regain his strength. He reached Ashville, August 3rd at 8:15 a.m., very weak and hardly able to walk. He found his way to the home of William Ward and desired to be taken to his mother, but was to weak to attempt the drive. His mother was staying with her daughter, Mrs. J.W. HOY of Madison township. Arrangements were made to go the next morning, but ere that morn had dawned death laid his iron grasp upon his victim; and thus the first news of his arrival to both his mother and sisters was their summons to see him a lifeless form. Obituary / Additional Information: The Mt. Sterling Tribune has the following account of the death of Osman Crabb on the 13 inst.: The many friends in this community of Uncle Osman Crabb, were greatly surprised and pained to hear the report Sunday that he had suddenly fell dead on the porch at his home just after he had eaten a hearty breakfast that morning. He was an old man and a much respected citizen of this and adjoining counties. He was in Sterling Saturday, the day before his death, feeling unusually well and in apparent good spirits. He was aged about 74 yers and leaves a widow and several children, among whom are Thomas Crabb, merchant, of this place and Frank with whom the old folks made their home. For several years he has failed in health and has at times complained of feeling smothered and a choking sensation signifying heart trouble, the direct cause of his death, undoubtedly. He was a consistent member of the M.E. Church, and formerly was a faithful attendant. While it is painful and sad that he was taken without any warning, yet no one was better prepared, and had their work more completed than Uncle Osman. The widow, children and relatives have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in their affliction. His funeral was preached at his late residence on Monday last and the body interred in Pleasant cemetery.

Obituary / Additional Information: John DAVIS and his wife, Hester DAVIS, both died, last week, from the effects of old age. The latter breathed her last about twenty-two hours after her husband. He was in his 88th and she in her 76th year. The funeral was a wonderful gathering, at least 2,000 people being present. The church and school-yards adjoining and the turnpike were densely packed with carriages and buggies. The funeral discourse was delivered by Rev. H. J. DUCKWORTH, of Mt. Sterling, who was assisted in the services by Revs. MANN and SOUTHWARD. Owing to the excessive dust the sprinkler from Mt. Sterling was brought out, enabling the funeral procession to have a much pleasanter drive to the cemetery. Mr. DAVIS was interred by the side of his first wife and Mrs. DAVIS by the side of her brother, George WILSON. These old people were afflicted for several months previous to their death. DAVIS John DAVIS, one of the oldest citizens of Darby township, died at his residence at Palestine, Thursday night of last week, after a long illness, and his wife, Hester DAVIS, died on Friday, the funeral of both taking place from M. E. Church, at Palestine, Sunday afternoon. Mr. DAVIS was in his 88th year. He was born in Deercreek township, on the George WOOD farm, August 22, 1807, his father, Benjamin DAVIS, having removed there from Virginia, about the year 1802, subsequently removing to Monroe township, then to Darby township, and afterwards to Indiana, where he died in 1873. John DAVIS spent his life in Darby township, engaged in farming and stock raising. In 1830, he was married to Elizabeth CRABB, of Ross county. To them were born sixteen children, ten of whom grew to manhood and womanhood, and among the survivors are Joseph and David DAVIS, of Darby township, and William DAVIS and Mrs. Frederick OWEN, of Monroe township. Mrs. DAVIS died in 1882, and some time thereafter Mr. DAVIS was married to Hester MATLOCK, whose death occurred as above, at the age of 77 years. transcribed by Lisa Hayashi from the Democrat and Watchman (Circleville, Ohio), September 7, 1894, held by the Pickaway County Genealogical Society, Circleville, Ohio.
